Mission statement development & implementation

What is a corporate mission statement for?

A mission statement

  • describes the self-image and basic principles of an organization,
  • serves as a compass and decision-making aid for company management and employees,
  • conveys the meaning of tasks,
  • strengthens awareness of corporate identity, goals and strategies,
  • increases employee motivation and identification,
  • makes it easier to attract and select new employees,
  • forms the basis for internal and external communication processes,
  • is essential for the creation of the target image in public.

The mission statement is a target state

It describes the target image. It only comes to life through the daily behavior of managers and employees, through products and services, appearance and overall communication. Or not. All too often there is a gap between the mission statement and the actual behavior of a company and its management. A dissonance arises outside. The mission statement and communication seem like lip service and anything but authentic.

It is essential to carefully implement the mission statement into the corporate culture, organization, structure, processes, communication, etc. Only then can it come to life and become part of the DNA of an organization. Only then can an external image emerge that corresponds to the intended image.

Components of a mission statement:

  • Corporate vision: Description of the company's overarching goals and development direction
  • Corporate mission: Formulation of corporate purpose & benefits for customers, employees, society
  • Corporate philosophy: self-image in dealing with each other inside and outside the company, framework of shared norms and values for daily actions
  • Company motto: Self-image in a nutshell

Central success factors for the development of the mission statement:

  • Commitment to the process – whoever says mission statement must also say implementation.
  • The mission statement is differentiating, relevant for the target groups, sustainable and future-oriented (requirements: e.g. out-of-the-box thinking, avoidance of empty words).
  • Willingness of company management and executives to exemplify the defined values and principles (“practice what you preach”).
  • Involvement and motivation of employees to turn them into brand ambassadors.

Why an external partner in the development of the mission statement?

As a rule, you are in far too deep yourself and can't see the forest for the trees - without noticing it. We hold a mirror up to you and get you to take a meta perspective. We challenge the status quo. We help you to think new, different and “out-of-the-box”. Facets often reveal themselves that you consider to be completely normal and self-evident from the inside, but which are different from the outside and make a real point. This is always an aha moment for our clients.

ENERGIZE YOUR LEADERSHIP program: Targeted promotion of female leadership talent

Women are underrepresented at management level in most companies. Politics and society are increasingly becoming aware of this deficiency and more and more companies are working on concepts for promoting and specifically recruiting female talent.

Female empowerment is a leadership task

Studies show that companies with women in leadership positions are more successful. In addition, women in leadership positions see themselves primarily as motivators. They strive to underpin their role with technical and factual leadership more than their male colleagues. This has a positive effect on employee motivation and the working atmosphere.

On the one hand, companies are asked to design the framework conditions so that women can develop their potential and reconcile family and career.

On the other hand, individual empowerment is important. Many women underestimate themselves and their abilities and potential.
According to studies, women are more prone to imposter syndrome. They are more often plagued by self-doubt and attribute their successes to fortunate circumstances rather than their own abilities. When it comes to their own suitability for leadership, women rate themselves as less effective compared to men.

What ENERGIZE YOUR LEADERSHIP is about

  • Targeted empowerment of female talent in the company
  • We can only change what we are aware of: creating awareness of our own abilities and potential as well as blockages and other limiting factors
  • Building on this, consistent and sustainable further development through individual coaching
  • Development and promotion of individual leadership style and leadership strengths while conveying a forward-looking understanding of leadership
